WordCamp Europe 2020 postponed

Europe’s own regional WordCamp WordCamp Europe 2020 has been postponed.

The organizers behind Europe’s largest WordPress event fought for a long time to see if the impact of the Corona pandemic could be handled in such a way that it would allow for the WordCamp to take place.

Sadly not. It was only a matter of time before the team behind this regional WordCamp decided to postpone the event to 2021.

The organizers announced the postponement in an update on the WCEU website:

It is with heavy hearts that we announce WordCamp Europe will be postponed until 2021.

The decision to postpone WCEU 2020 was not made lightly, as each member of the organising team is deeply invested in the event, but it was made collectively.

In accordance with WHO recommendations

Based on the current pandemic spread of the Corona virus and the recommendations from the World Health Organization and from WordCamp Central, the organizers concluded that the concerns of the WordPress community outweighed all other aspects of the decision to postpone.

The organizers express this concern in stating that the in-person event they envisioned; a diverse, inclusive, safe, fun, and educational event would not be possible under the current circumstances.
